Sept 30th, National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

As most should know by now, Coastland will be recognizing National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on Thursday, September 30th by shutting down all of our operations. We feel this is an important opportunity for all of our employees and families to have a chance to learn about the atrocities of the residential school system, and build a better understanding of Indigenous cultures.

With that in mind, we wanted to share an event that is going on here in Nanaimo that we would recommend all of our employees and management be part of. On Sept 30th from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, the Snuneymuxw First Nation will lead an event including speeches from Elders and survivors of the residential schools, performances and the unveiling of a new Welcome Pole. A link to the event is below.

Truth and Reconciliation Day events planned for Snuneymuxw First Nation

For those in the lower mainland, we recommend that all of our families do some research and attend events in their local community. There are a few here in the link below but a quick internet search in your area should reveal others. See the link on National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Day.
